In the design (womenswear) class I take, we are beginning work on our final project next week and need to base around a theme, whether it's a culture, genre of music, quote, book, or really anything at all. I'm not necessarily sure what mine will be, however I've started collecting some images that inspire me in the meantime. If you can find a common thread between them and tell me so I can make it my theme, I will love you forever...

shoe q's
The relationship that we have with our shoes is a strange one, though, in terms of things we put on our bodies, one of the most necessary. They protect our feet from perils such as the New York City sidewalk, sharp objects, wet grass, etc, and for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, we could hardly survive without them for 7 months of the year.
The reasons most of us wear shoes are practical, so then why don't our shoes always feel practical? Of course, these days many designer shoes are essentially sculptural art, but for everyday (and I'm generalizing here) why do we feel the need to totter, limp, and stumble around, when there are other options out there? Most often, it's the shoes that are meant to make us feel most powerful (heels...boots) that cripple us the most, and what is empowering about that?
Thankfully the sneaker revolution is happening and I hope it lasts for seasons to come because I love them with all my heart. If there isn't one thing that makes me feel important and cool, it's being able to carry myself with the confidence that, no, I won't fall down two flights of stairs at school. In fact, I could run down backwards if I wanted to but not really.
So to conclude (though not entirely because I'm leaving thoughts and responses open to you), the above photographs were taken by moi avec le trusty iphone while on vacation in California, starring my new old school Vans which are, yes, practical, empowering and have already been successfully tested out in the stairwells at school.

news
I'm currently desperate for any kind of warm, sunny weather at all. By warm I mean at least 45 degrees Fahrenheit. I know, this painful winter has lowered my standards, and I practically worship dark gloomy weather normally. On top of it all, it's supposed to snow tonight. Okay I'm actually ashamed to be talking about the weather on here, IS THIS WHAT IT'S COME TO?!?! No. But yes. Because all I've been doing for the past fifteen minutes is look at my photos from the summer. Cue, le example...
I think this was taken in June (beyond excited to whip out that see-through Theysken's Theory dress again!). However, the good news is that on Friday I will be headed to California for spring break so if any of you have any suggestions of cool things to do, see, shop, hangout, or eat in LA let me know! For now, AP Euro and art homework, even though I'll most likely be sucked into the vortex that is tumblr.

I've always been interested in photography but never really pursued it. It was always just for fun, nothing serious, I've got better things to do etc. However, with the arrival of le iphone last year into my open fingers, that has drastically changed. You mean I don't have to learn what an f-stop is? Not to mention I always have it with me if I'm ever in a more spontaneous photographable situation. Ah, technology. You make my heart sing.

also i realized i never posted them.
also i'm boycotting capital letters today because i'm cool like that.

y
I can never think of good titles for my posts so I was thinking of adopting a letter-number system of naming them only to realize that could only last for so long without getting confusing therefore I will only be doing it for this post. All that was to explain that the letter y has no significance in this context. I guess if you really want to delve into it it reflects the simplicity of the photos but even that is stretching it. Black/white/grey obsession is here to stay, for now at least, and I'm happy about it.

marathon post
Once again, sorry for the inherent neglect. It's bad I know. Who am I to call myself a blogger? But anyways, I am here and breathing therefore blood is being supplied to my boney robot-fingers in order to type this. So. Get. Excited.
However, the real reason I've snatched you from the plethora of other interesting attractions that fill the interwebs to my lonely little blog is to discuss important matters. I try not to waste your time. You would think that as a "fashion blogger" (though I honestly hate calling myself that) I would be going batshit crazy right now "reporting" oh god the sarcasm about fashion week(s), but I'm sure you're getting enough o' that from other blogs so here we can create some breathing space to talk about more interesting things.
First of all, it's March. So happy spring, even though it's a solid 36 degrees here in New York right now. I'm feeling this month, not in the tangible sense, in the vibe-y sense if you know what I mean. I've always felt that March is like a limbo month, not quite winter anymore, definitely not spring, some sort of weird hybrid that no one really likes because its gloomy and more often than not muddy, but I've always liked the underdog. In a visceral sense, here is March translated into clothing for you:
The explanation is as simple as the pieces/images are, no need for superfluous reasoning. Like I said, March is a hybrid month, unpredictable, and fluctuating wildly climactically. All you can do (read: all I do) is stay clean and simple and layered and all the other familiar comforts you know and love in a tumultuous and anxious timepoetic license status: used up. Item details on my polyvore if you're curious.
As with any mood, there comes music, and with that I leave you with my current favorites that aren't so different from my not current favorites aka my favorites 4 months ago because that's just the way it goes OKAY:
I could probably list 20 more and these are in no particular order (except Blood Red Moon is my numero uno) but aside from that, just the first songs that came to mind. Maybe this is overboard, I don't know, I don't know anything.
I do feel that an awkward transition is necessary though for me to highlight one quick fashion week moment that I just need to let out because my love for it, behold Margiela hair-strap:

Honestly, it's actually practical and cool looking. I dig. Now that this post has overstayed it's welcome and I don't want to bore you considering you probably have cool places to be and amazing people to meet while I'm writing this from home at 10 pm on a Friday night after running on the treadmill and drinking a smoothie. What you would expect from a classy-ass teenager. The good life.
